Mbarara district is the largest urban center and main business capital of Western Uganda, a region commonly referred to as “the land of milk and honey”. Mbarara is found about 290km southwest of Uganda’s capital Kampala by road about 4 hour drive. Queen Elizabeth National Park
Queen Elizabeth National Park boast of one of the highest biodiversity ratings of any game reserve in the world. There is almost 100 mammal species and 606 bird species. Lake Bunyonyi
Lake Bunyonyi in Kabale district is the deepest lake in Uganda and the second deepest in Africa. EXPLORE THE SSESE ISANDS
The Ssese Islands are an archipelago of eighty-four islands in the northwest of Lake Victoria, Uganda and they have a common boundary with the Kalangala district in southern central Uganda which has no territory on the main land. The northwestern corner of Lake Victoria; the largest water lake in Africa, is occupied by these islands and about forty-three of the islands are inhabited. Among all these islands, the largest is Bugala Island with its largest town called Kalangala which serves as the headquarters of Kalangala district that carries its name. The islands vary in size from less than 10,000 square metres, to over 40 kilometres in length for the largest island, Bugala.
The Ssese islands are divided in two main groups with the Bugala group in the southwest with which Bugala island, the largest in the group is named after. The northeastern group can be referred to as the Koome group after Koome Island which is also the largest in the group. These two groups are separated by Koome channel. These islands are inhabited by the Bantu speaking Bassese tribe who are mainly rely on fishing and canoe making as source of employment and food.
The first inhabitants of these islands were once described as the principal canoe builders and the greater number of the sailors of Mutesa’s empire by Henry Morton Stanley. Fishing of the huge Nile perch is the main activity on these islands with much of the catch being exported. Other activities include agriculture, tourism and forestry. Livestock farming is widely practiced on these islands with about 250000 poultry like chicken, turkey and ducks, 7000pigs, 3000cattle and 1235 goats. On this island, 15000ha of palm oil plantations is owned by a private palm oil processor based in Jinja district called BIDCO. This plant began generating 1.5MW of electricity in 2014 through burning Bagasse and some of the oil. The power supplies the oil processing plant and the excess is sold to Kalangala , the islands largest town.
BUGALA ISLAND
This is the 2nd largest island after Ukerewe Island on Lake Victoria and its 275sq.kms with its chief town being Kalangala. This island is the best developed for tourism and it’s connected to the main land by a regular motor ferry with many accommodation sites to suite all classes of people and comfort. Luku is one of the most important landmarks on this island. It’s a small village on the western extreme of the island where motor ferry from the main land docks and its connected to Kalangala with a good dirty road. Other islands that make up Bugala include Bugaba, Bukasa, Bubeke, Bufumira, Serinya, Funve and Buvova.

KALANGALA ISLAND
Kalangala  is found at about 51km across water, southwest of Entebbe in Wakiso district on the Ugandan mainland. It’s one of the famous islands among the 58 and it has one of its best accommodation sites, Brovard sands lodge. Kalangala is accessed majorly by two ferries one in Masaka and the other from Entebbe at Nakiwogo landing site all heading to Ssese islands. This island can also be accessed by a speed boat that takes about one hour with the ferry taking about three hours.

KOOME ISLANDS
In the northwestern part of Lake Victoria in Mukono district, central Uganda we find the Koome island which is the largest in the northeastern group. Koome is about 63km by water northeast of Kalangala and 35km southeast of Entebbe by water. Bugombe is the largest urban area on this island and it’s found on the northwestern shore of the island with Koome health center III providing health services to the residents. The main economic activity on Koome Island is fishing and the Nile perch is the primary fish species commonly got. Most of the catch is exported to the mainland for sell. Other activities carried out by the residents include both crop and animal husbandry with animals like cows, goats, pigs and sheep being reared. Tourism is also a main activity on the island. Other islands that make up Koome Island include Luwaji, Damba, Kavaya, Ngamba-chimpanzee Island and Bulago Island among others.
Basically, these are some of the famous islands among the 58 islands that make up Ssese islands.

In the western part of Uganda we find Kabale district of the Kigezi sub region and it’s about 420km southwest of Kampala City the Capital of Uganda by road. Kabale is blessed with health facilities like Kabale Referral hospital, financial service providers like National Social Secutrity Fund, Crane Bank, Post Bank, Stanbic Bank among others. Education faculties like Kabale University among others provide quality education to the population.
Kabale has many areas that could be of great interest to visitors. These include the cultural and historical sites of National significance like the Kigwara Cultural site believed to be the home of Bunyoro cultural music, Kihumuro cultural site the tomb of Duhaga, one of Bunyoros early kings among others.  This district is also famous for having the largest number of caves and scenic rocks among all districts in Uganda. Coupled with the forest vegetation are caves and rocky areas, these are a home to various bird species, ideal conditions for cave explorations and birding. There are more to be done in these areas as pleases the visitors as long as they are not harmful to the natural habitats. These caves also appear to have provided shelter and protection during the tribal wars as characterized by old stony findings.

EXPLORE MASINDI

Masindi district is located in western Uganda at about 220 km from Kampala city  by road and the journey will take around 3-5 hours depending on traffic, especially around and in Kampala. Masindi is bordered by Kiryandongo district in the east, Nakaseke and Nakasongola district in the southeast, Nwoya in the north, Kyankwanzi in the south, Bulisa district to the northwest and Hoima district to the south west. Masindi district occupies an area of about 9326sq.km, comparatively dry but fertile enough to support agriculture with most of the residents both rural and poor.  Agriculture is the main activity in this area; crops like matooke, cassava, potatoes, coffee, and cotton among others are grown.  Other economic and domestic  activities carried out in Masindi include, fishing in the rivers and lakes like lake Albert, fish farming with over 250 Ponds in the district, bee keeping with tourism are steadily increasing.

The various tourist sites that attract visitors in and around Masindi include, the Murchison falls national park with more than 50% located in Masindi - south of the Victoria Nile with the falls inside the park. Murchison Falls harbors numerous species of mammals, birds, primates that attract visitors to the district. Budongo forest reserve is also located approximately 40km by road west of Masindi on the Masindi-Butiaba road harboring primates and other wildlife. Butiaba port located about 54.5km west of Masindi by road on the Lake Albert shores and the Bugungu wildlife reserve near port Butiaba. All these attract visitors to the district. Accommodation is also widely available in the district to offer services to the tourist.

Kisoro district is found in the western part of Uganda and it’s bordered by Kabale district in the east, Rwanda in the south, Kanungu district in the north, DRC in the west. Kisoro town is approximately 45km by road west of Kabale and 460km by road southwest of Kampala, the capital city of Uganda. About 3.88% of this district is covered n water, 2.95% in wetlands and 0.96%is covered in natural forestry. Kisoro is a mountainous and hilly district raising an average of 1980m above sea level. Kisoro district was first known as Bufumbira County and was part of Kabale district. It has 13 sub counties and four parliamentary constituencies; Bufumbira south, east, north and Bufumbira Women’s representatives.
Like most districts in the country, agriculture is the backbone of Kisoro's economy. Crops like sorghum, sweat potatoes, Irish potatoes and maize among others are grown in this district. Residents also keep livestock on a subsistence level with a few having large cattle farms. Kisoro district is blessed with tourist’s sites that have led to its development like Mgahinga gorilla national park. This park is a home to primates like mount gorillas, and also covers three of the eight Virunga volcanoes; Muhabura, Sabyinyo,and Gahinga all of which lie on the Uganda Rwanda border. One of the countries famous national parks is found in this district. Bwindi impenetrable forest National Park which is famous for the mountain gorillas.

HIRE A CAR IN GULU

Gulu is a small town located in northern Uganda and is Gulu district's major administrative and commercial center. Situated about 340 kilometers from Kampala, Gulu is a destination still recovering from the scars left by the LRA rebels during their attacks from 1986 to 2012 when joint military forces of Uganda & United States of America forced them out of northern Uganda into south Sudan. Today Gulu town is a peaceful and developed destination with good communication systems, hotels, secondary schools, a university , good transport and road system and a diverse range of Luo tribes that attract thousands of tourists from within and outside Uganda.
Major attractions in Gulu include the Gulu airport which is the second largest aiport in Uganda , Peace war memorial stadium which is home of the Gulu United FC , Gulu central market and Acholi homeland. Gulu town is used as base for tourists interested in game viewing in the Murchison falls national park, Uganda's largest conservation area.

Getting there- Driving to Gulu lasts between 4- 5 hours depending on the routes you take, you can use the Masindi- Kampala road and then connect to the Bobi-Masindi road taking you directly to Gulu. Another road is the Acholibur- Gulu- Olwiyo road which connects Mbale to Gulu and Oliwyo towns.

Kasese district is found in the western part of Uganda and it’s located along the Equator. This district is bordered by Kamwenge District in the east, Kabarole District in the north, DRC in the west and Ruburizi District in the south. Kasese is located approximatley 359km by road west of Kampala, the Capital of Uganda. It’s a multi ethnic district with people of different cultures like the Batooro and Bakonjo.
Kasese district is also into agriculture like most of the districts in Uganda. Crops like millet, cassava, coffee among others are cultivated here.  Kasese is also hosts part of the Rwenzururu Kingdom which is conterminus with the Rwenzururu sub region and this sub region consists of Bundibugyo District, Ntoroko District and Kasese District as well.
885square kilometers of Queen Elizabeth National Park and 652square kilometers of the Rwenzori Mountains National Park are found in Kasese. These Parks are a home to many mammals like elephants, lions, bufalos, warthogs and many more. Numerous bird spieces and primates like the colobus monkeys, red and black monkeys plus others are harbored in these parks. Fort Portal is found in western Uganda and is the seat of both Tooro Kingdom and Kabarole District. This district is located approximately 320km by road west of Kampala, the Capital City of Uganda. This District is named after its biggest town which got its name from a British Special Commissioner, Sir Gerald Portal whose statue graces the main road of the town.

Mbale district is located northeast of Uganda and it is 245km by road from Kampala city and its coordinates are 1°04'50.0"N, 34°10'30.0"E (Latitude:1.080556; Longitude:34.175000). Mbale also lies on the rail from Tororo to Pakwach.
It also has numerous areas of interest like Mountan Elgon one of the oldest extinct volcanoes in East Africa being one of its major attractions, Mount Elgon national park which hosts numerous flora and fauna, over 257 bird species. The three famous Sipi falls, public facilities like the central market and municipal stadium. It takes about 4hours to travel from Kampala city to Mbale district, a distance of 225.9km. The road to Mbale is tarmac and it runs through districts like Jinja, Iganga and Budaka. Mbale has  14sub counties,  48 parishes and 65villages.

Mengo is found in Kampala district on one of its hills in Lubaga division. It’s bordered by Nsambya hill to the east, old Kampala to the north, Lubaga hill to the west, Kibuye to the southeast, Namirembe hill to the north and Ndeeba to the south. It lies approximate 2.5km by road directly south of the central business center of Kampala. The peak of Mengo hill is 12210m asl.  On Mengo hill is where the main palace commonly known as Lubiri of the Kabaka of the Buganda kingdom, a monarchy that dates back to 800 year is found. This Lubiri is 4 square miles (10km) and is ringed by a 6 ft brick fence with a small air strip inside
 The word 'Mengo' is a Luganda word for Grinding stone. Legend has it that the ancient communities from Ssese islands who settled here used these stones to grind there food. Mengo hill is also joined with the adjacent Namirembe hill, the seat of the Anglican church of Uganda because of the monarchy’s close association with the Church of England. Bulange which houses the offices of the Kabaka and the Lukkiko (Buganda’s parliament) is located at the base of the Namirembe hill. In Mengo we find various other tourists site apart from the Buganda kingdom, we have Mengo hospital, a 300 bed hospital affiliated by the church of Uganda, the joint research clinic, the buildings of the Uganda Supreme Court, the Uganda museum and many more.

In the central part of Uganda we find Masaka district which is estimated to have a population of 251,600. Masaka is bordered by Kalungu district in the north, Rakai district in the south west, Kalangala district in the south and east, Bukomansimbi district in the northwest and Lwengo district to the west. It is located approximately 140km southwest of Kampala city by road on the highway to Mbarara district. Masaka district has many areas of interest to the visitors like the Nabugabo sand beach which is located 23km from the town. It’s popular for hosting activities like canoe races, beach volleyball and football. Crafting is also popular in this district as many shops have been set up to make and sell craft items to the people. Community tourism in this district also gives visitors a feel of the environment with the market walks, community trails and the great nature walk on the hilly terrain covered in green cover. The Bukakata landing site is also one of the areas of interest in this district as it’s a gate way to the tourist hub of Kalangala and areas of Lake Victoria.
