Jinja is a town in
Eastern Uganda famously known as the 'East Africa's centre for
Adventure'. Jinja is endowed with lots of tourist attractions
ranging from adventure sports, game viewing, bird watching, community
encounters and forest walks that give an extraordinary experience that sticks
to your minds ever.
Home Of The Source Of
The Nile: The World Longest River
The longest river in the world that supports millions of
lives of Africans for centuries originates from Jinja-Uganda where it departs
from the second largest fresh water lake known as Lake Victoria. River Nile
flows northwards measuring 4,258 miles shared by eleven countries on the
eastern side of the African continent namely Uganda, Tanzania, Kenya, Ethiopia,
Egypt, Congo, Burundi, Rwanda, Eritrea, South Sudan and North Sudan. The Nile
continues its journey to North Africa until it pours into the Mediterranean
Sea. The river forms a number of rapids that offers a tremendous opportunity
for adventure sports such as white water rafting, kayaking, and boat cruises.
Adventure Falls in
Jinja
The Itanda Falls: Known to kayakers and rafters, including
Prince William of Great Britain, this stretch of the Nile is easily one of the
most hidden jewels of Uganda. Itanda Falls has spectacular set of rapids,
waterfalls and the hillsides around it. Even fewer know how to get there over
land. To locals Itanda falls is considered a sacred site usually referred
to as “Blessed Place” where those living near the falls come to pray at the
base of a tree in times of adversity such as when they need a physical miracle.
Kalagala Falls: Kalagala is another one of the easy day
trips to make out of Jinja. Aside from the falls proper there are a couple of
nice rapids to view but the hidden gem is a small swimming area quite off the
beaten path. Kalagala doesn’t get many visitors anyway so you’re almost
guaranteed some privacy.
Bujagalai
Falls: Their rafting trips offer clients some of the best wild-water in the
World, combined with beautiful sections of lush, green, African scenery at the
start of Africa’s longest river and one of the most important rivers in the
World. Often rafts flipped dumping
occupants into the churning water, dragging them under and spitting them back
up to be rescued by the safety kayakers waiting downstream. Other adventure activities such as; kayaking, ATV/Quad bike safaris, horse riding, a bungee jump, boating, sight-seeing, fishing & bird-watching trips, jet-boating, mountain biking, canoeing and tubing which will leave you thrilling for more.
